CHÂTEAU DE CÉRONS
AOC GRAVES DRY WHITE

Dazzling

The year 2022 was marked by a mild and dry winter leading to an early budding. The spring is mild and wet with no pest pressure. Flowering took place quickly in very favorable, dry and warm conditions. The harvest prospects are very good on our Graves soils. The vines resisted the heat and drought well and remained green and vigorous until the harvest. Two storms in August allowed the grapes to finish ripening. The first white grape harvest took place on 19 August. The juices were rich, well-balanced and had good acidity, and the volumes were moderate. The first Merlot were harvested at the beginning of September, followed by the Cabernet. The red grapes were harvested serenely as they matured throughout the month. The wines are magnificent, colorful, fruity and concentrated. Color, smoothness, creaminess, and freshness are the key features of this vintage. 2022 is a brilliant vintage with great ageing potential.

Bright yellow colour with green hue. Elegant nose with refined fruit, ripe peach, hints of physalis, grapefruit zest and tangerine. Discreet spiciness in the background. On the palate juicy and crips with sweet fruit and aromatic herbs, very good length.

Markus DEL MONEGO91/100

Juicy and lemony with green apples and grapefruit peel. Clean acidity and sleek texture. Medium-bodied.

James SUCKLING90-91/100

A blend of 70% of Sémillon, 25% Sauvignon Blanc, and 5% Sauvignon Gris, fully matured in stainless tanks, the 2022 de Cérons blanc evokes aromas of lemon, lemon oil, jasmine, spring flowers, and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, suppe and envelopping, with bright acids and energetic texture, it’s long, saline and penetrating, a great effort from de the Perromat family.

Yohan CASTAING90-92/100

Yves BECK90-92/100

Bright pale gold in colour. Aromatic nose of ederflower, white peach, and ripe lemon. Palate of vibrant fruit with a creamy texture with notes of white flowers, yellow apple, lemon curd, peach yoghurt, and pastry, with hints of toast.

A tightrope walker’s balance, a goldsmith’s precision, an angel’s patience, steel nerves and an unwavering optimism were needed to hope to produce a few barrels this year. The vintage begins with a month punctuated by nights spent fighting against the effects of frost. A fight that was successful depending on the parcels, the heart of the Graves was unfortunately well hit. The incessant rainfall throughout May, the second half of June and the first half of July required constant attention to avoid mildew. The month of September offering us sunny and warm days followed by cool nights, allowed us to reach, step by step, a satisfactory maturity and a very rare vintage… but worthy of interest.

Worldwide wine that has made Bordeaux famous, 2021 is the vintage of reflections on the future.

Jane ANSON89/100

Château de Cérons is a 30-hectre estate in Graves and their 2021 Blanc was a showstopper. Saline tinged citrus fruit with apricot and lime. Impressive texture and poise. I always take it as a good sign when fellow winemakers crowd the table for a sample and tell me that their own cellars are stocked with this wine

Sarah MCCLEERY

Yohan CASTAING90-92/100

Jeb DUNNUCK91-93/100

Bernard BURTSCHY92-93/100

A nose of crushed minerals, pine needle and saline energy here, with plenty of citrus-pith Sauvignon character. The palate is gently textured, lightly polished, with a sinewy and velvety middle, lightly griddled orchard fruits, peppery energy as well as a spindle of bright and almost granular acidity. This has a real sense of charm, with lovely freshness and vigour. Well done, this will drink very well from release.

Chris KISSACK90-92/100

The de Cérons 2021 Blanc exhibits aromas of citrus zest, crisp orchard fruit and white flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and incive palate. It’s produced from vineyards in the Graves not far from Sauternes-Barsac that deliver a low pH style, and it’s vinfied without any oak.

William KELLEY89-90/100

The 2020 vintage is particularly marked by a warm climate. The winter is mild, with little rainfall, accompanied by unusually warm temperatures. The budburst is early. The spring, warm and damp, favors an active growth. By contrast, the summer is dry and very hot, slowing down the maturation of the grapes. Fortunately, we receive a series of small stormy rains from mid-August onwards which boosts the ripening of the grapes.

At harvest time, the berries are beautiful, very healthy and have a remarkable organoleptic quality. The wines are rich, aromatic and precise. The vintage is generous and intense.
A tasty and voluptuous wine.

Sharp Sauvignon Blanc character on the nose, bright and perky, tomato leaf, lemongrass and citrus, a lovely summery feel to this. Look out for their new orange wine also Coucher de Soleil, a brilliant food wine that is so easy to drink (not specifically tasted for the en primeurs).

Jane ANSON92/100

Michel BETTANE93-94/100

Unpredictable and unusual weather! An exceptionally short, mild and rainy winter. Despite the early budding of the vines, we avoided the spring frosts of March, April and May.

The heat settles suddenly at the end of May and brings us into the summer period, which accelerates the development of the vines. Hot and dry summer. Stormy rains at the beginning of August allowed the grapes to ripen in ideal conditions with alternating hot, sunny days and cool nights.

The wines are ripe, rich and aromatic. They have sap and precision. 2019 is a wine of style and depth, a wine of balance, power and purity.

Yves BECK90/100

Grassy and citrus Sauvignon notes, some lovely classicism on display here, with a flinty minerality appearing towards the close of play, picking up the place and stops things becoming too sharp. Enjoyable stuff from Xavier and Caroline Perromat. Drinking window 2020-2027.

Jane ANSON89/100

Bright yellow with green hue. Elegant nose with slightly reductive start, opening up well displaying fine citrus fruit and hints of fresh mint. On the palate lively acidity, fresh citrus fruit, discreet minerality adding up to a fine tension. A well made Graves with very good length.

Markus DEL MONEGO91/100

The 2018 vintage was a real test of patience.
The first 6 months of the year were dominated by incessant rainfall and mild temperatures. The weather then changed radically on the 15th of July, marking the start of a hot summer with periods of drought.
The harvest period stretched from late August to late October, with the grapes reaching excellent levels of maturity. This exceptionally long and rain-free harvest period allowed us to fine-tune our picking operations. In the cellar the juices proved to be very consistent, with a beautiful colour.
This was an unusual year with extreme conditions, but in the end it turned out to be an excellent vintage.

2017, a year that blew hot and cold…

Everything started out well. Bud break was even and took place three weeks earlier than usual –harbinger of a good vintage in Bordeaux.

However, two nights with frost did damage throughout the region, and our estate was not spared.

Fortunately, the plots located closest to the château, and thus not far from the Garonne, were hardly affected.  The harvest began on the 8th of September after a very dry, sunny, and hot month of August. This fine weather is reflected in the quality of the wine, as is the expertise of our winemaking team.  The white wines are delicious, with a great deal of freshness and minerality.

The reds have a deep colour, lovely aromatics, excellent fruit, and attractive freshness. The wines are smooth, round, and balanced on the palate.

Due to challenging weather conditions, the 2017 vintage was low in volume. However, the care taken in the vineyard and cellar were rewarded by promising wines.

Pepper and herb character to this as well as citrus. Light and straightforward with rather high acidity.

James SUCKLING86-88/100

Aromatic with youthful pear fruit at first, and deep in creamy citrus and green fruits.
Firm and compact with the richness in the mouth of the Sémillon balanced by excellent freshness. Fine dry texture and long finish.

Jancis ROBINSON16/20

Caroline and Xavier Perromat have made this estate one of the unmissable Graves names. Aged in stainless steel, which perhaps contributes to the slightly reductive, attractive flinty edge to the nose, which clears quickly but leaves an enjoyably sharp flinty feel through the palate. This is fairly austere as a result of that reductive edge, plus it has a high proportion of Sémillon which gives structure. Give it time to reveal the citrus and apricot edge, with rose petals emerging on the nose after a few minutes in the glass too.

Jane ANSON92/100

Bright yellow color with green hue. Aromatic nose reminiscent of ripe tangerine, grapefruit, ripe peaches and fresh apricots. On the palate well-structured with ripe fruit, crisp acidity and good length.

Markus DEL MONEGO90/100

2016 will long be remembered because of the very unusual weather: heavy rain in winter, drought in summer, and a superb Indian summer. We had never seen such extreme and highly unusual conditions. The harvest was exceptionally long, beginning in early September for the white wines and late October – and even early November – for the reds and Cérons.

The wines are altogether magnificent. The reds are deeply-coloured and full of fruit, the whites are elegant and show great aromatic complexity, and the sweet wines have outstanding floral overtones.

0-5 ans.

This was a great year reflecting both quality and consistency.
The weather was perfect. It was hot and sunny weather until late July. Cooler temperatures and a few showers in August were conducive to good, even ripening, and the grapes were picked in excellent condition.
The harvest and fermentation took place without a hitch, beginning with Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, followed by Sémillon, then Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes used to make Cérons were picked in several passes under ideal conditions.

2016-2019. Langoustines sautées.
